Xavier Vignon Cuvée SM2 Côtes du Rhône

“SM” stands for Septentrionale and Méridionale — Xavier Vignon’s signature trick of blending Syrah from the northern Rhône with Grenache from the south, something the appellation rarely sees done. SM2 is the second edition, a non-vintage blend drawn across years from 60-year-old Syrah vines and 80-year-old Grenache, roughly half and half. Expect a full-bodied, plush red with black cherry and cassis, cracked black pepper, garrigue herbs and a smoky edge, velvety in texture but carried by firm acidity. Serve at 15–17°C with grilled rib of beef or veal.
