Rocca della Macie Occhio al Vento Maremma Toscana Vermentino IGT
750 ml | Alcohol/Vol:
Rocca delle Macìe has been a defining name in Chianti Classico since 1973, when film director Italo Zingarelli rebuilt a derelict 14th-century farmstead near Castellina in Chianti into one of Tuscany's most recognized estates. The family later extended their holdings to the Maremma coast, adding the Casamaria vineyard within their Campomaccione property near Grosseto in 2003. Just inland from the Tyrrhenian, the site catches steady maritime breezes that cool the vines overnight and help the fruit hold onto its acidity through the growing season — ideal ground for Vermentino, a grape that can turn flabby in too much heat.
The wine is 100% Vermentino, vinified with controlled fermentation and bottled the following spring to preserve its youthful lift. In the glass it's a pale straw yellow, opening with acacia blossom and wild broom before turning toward riper notes of apple and pineapple; the palate stays dry and light on its feet, finishing clean with a faint trace of almond. A natural match for grilled or pan-seared fish, seafood pasta, or simple white meat dishes — or just poured on its own on a warm patio evening.
