A small family estate at Monti in Chianti, in the commune of Gaiole — the southern, higher end of the Chianti Classico zone and traditionally its most structured. The vineyards sit on the classic Tuscan pairing of alberese limestone and galestro schist, a stony skeleton threaded with shallow water veins that keeps the vines going through a dry summer.

Chianti Classico DOCG, Sangiovese-based. Expect the grape in its Gaiole register: sour cherry and red plum, dried herbs and a savoury, earthy edge, firm acidity and a dusty tannin that wants food rather than a sofa.

Made for the table — tomato-based pasta, grilled meats, salumi, aged pecorino.
