Fattoria dei Barbi is a long-established Montalcino estate, and Brusco dei Barbi was created in 1969 as a nod to older Tuscan fermentation practice. Around 90% Sangiovese with a little of other red varieties, it is aged entirely in stainless steel rather than oak, which keeps the fruit forward: bright ruby in the glass, red berries and wild strawberry over a subtle floral note, supple on the palate with balanced tannins. This is an everyday Tuscan red in the best sense — pour it with pizza, salumi and cured pork, white meats, tomato-based pasta or fresh cheeses.
