Joussier Clos de l'Évêché Pinot Noir Bourgogne Côte Chalonnaise

750 mL | Alcohol/Vol:

Domaine de l'Évêché has been the Joussier family's project since 1985, when Vincent Joussier reclaimed his family's vineyard land in Saint-Denis-de-Vaux, land that had sat planted as a fruit orchard since 1936. Today Vincent, his wife Sylvie, and their son Quentin farm just 14 hectares by hand, vinifying each parcel separately to let the individual terroirs speak for themselves.

Clos de l'Évêché is the domaine's home parcel — two and a half hectares that have been under vine since the middle ages, wrapped right around the Joussier family house and facing the Mercurey slopes across the Vaux valley. The Pinot Noir grows on a hillside of clay and limestone, from vines averaging around 25 years old, with a fifth of the blend aged in new oak. The result pours unusually dark for a Pinot Noir, with a nose of blackberry and warm baking spice; the palate is round and sun-soaked, wrapped in fine, silky tannins. Pour it with roast or grilled poultry, duck breast, mushroom dishes, or a soft, tender cheese.
