Te Kahu comes off the free-draining stony soils of the Gimblett Gravels, a warm pocket of Hawke's Bay that suits Bordeaux varieties beautifully. Merlot leads a classic blend with Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Cabernet Franc, giving ripe dark fruit, cassis and a note of cocoa over supple tannins and a long, structured finish. Decant it young and pour it with slow-cooked beef or lamb, rich pasta, or hard aged cheese.
