What is Amarone?
Amarone is made using a unique winemaking technique called appassimento, where the harvested grapes are dried on racks or straw mats for several months to concentrate their sugars and flavors before fermentation. This results in a rich, full-bodied wine with higher alcohol content and intense flavors.
Amarone wines are characterized by their rich, complex flavors of dried fruit (such as raisins, figs, and prunes), along with notes of dark cherry, chocolate, tobacco, and spice. They have a full body, high alcohol content, and firm tannins, with a long, lingering finish.
They have excellent aging potential and can continue to develop and improve in the bottle for many years, often becoming softer and more complex with age
